Climate change is quickly become a topic of concern for nations around the world. In 2005 the Kyoto protocol established emissions reduction goals for the 141 nations involved, and will require widespread support for success. The U.S. did not ratify the Kyoto Agreement; however, California is finding its own ways to combat climate change.

This project on Global Warming Potential Estimation seeks to make library systems Carbon Neutral.  Much of the generalized approach of existing online greenhouse gas calculators to determine the carbon footprint and the corresponding offsets does not match the specific concerns of various offices and institutions. Through this project, we intend to carry out such an analysis for an office setting in an academia (e.g. a University Library) in hopes of generalizing it to be applicable to similar academia environments, thus in turn laying the foundation for building an indigenous tool for Global Warming Potential (GWP) estimation, without the help of external carbon offsetting business agencies.
